This just flat-out has to go. If you are doing this then you need to realize the following problems that it causes:
- It can often jam PCs especially if they are on a slow connection.
- Users are often prompted to download special audio software when the Website loads if their PC lacks
an audio player that recognizes the format the audio file is in.
- If someone has their speakers cranked it can be startling. That means annoying and that means the user
will say good-bye in lightning speed.
People often do this as a quick and cheap way to present themselves as being sophisticated and to get a user's attention.
It doesn't work. Trying to rely on people to remember your Website as the one that loads with an elk bugling or
a turkey gobbling is an effort in vain. It is a widely used out of date practice.
