Building a Website is Like Building a Business Plan
Tuesday, February 02, 2010
Websites are a hard copy of your business model - flat out. What you represent on your Website is your business. Many people have great ideas for Websites but it becomes clear early on that in putting their Website together they are also summing up what the business is and how it operates. Quickly, they learn that putting all this stuff together it a lot more work than they anticipated. When you actually have to talk about "you" and what you "do", it gets a little complicated. Building a Data Driven Website is a lot of Work for Clients too!
Tuesday, October 13, 2009
This evening I was on the phone with a new client whose data driven ECommerce Website we are developing. We are on the downhill slope of getting it wrapped up and I am stoked. Its a very nice Website featuring AJAX and a really cool design that he came up with. As we were going over everything on the phone, I could sense that he realized it was a bit more work than he had planned. I simply said to him, "Its a lot of work, isn't it?". He wasted no time saying, "Yes, more than I thought". Read More...

Friday, September 18, 2009
If you are a small business looking for a live chat option for your Website customers then you may be realizing that it's an expensive sport. A lot has changed in the chat industry as I have found out myself in the past couple of days. Live chat pricing and the way it is being sold is much different than it was a couple of years ago. It makes you wonder if many small businesses can even afford live chat right now. But I do think things will change and I did find a bright spot for Windows users wanting a cost-effective live chat solution. Read More...

The global nature of the Internet makes anyone anywhere a potential customer for a variety of businesses. However; a global mindset when it comes to promoting your business on the Internet can also have its drawbacks. As you keep the flood gates open, you also have a Website that is not geographically bound. Search Engine Optimization Specialist (SEO) - Biggest Scam on the Internet
Saturday, September 05, 2009
Without question, the biggest scam on the Internet right now is the Search Engine Optimization Specialist. Every time I see one of these services I hear Sally Struthers voice in my head, "Do you want to make more money? Sure, we all do." That popular "tell them what they want to hear" phrase that was on TV for years pretty much sums it up. New site owners will often hire the services of these people to improve their ranking and often end up paying for nothing. Read More...

Are You Forcing Security on Your Social Networking Site?
Thursday, September 03, 2009
Living the life of a single guy, and loving it, I get around the Rochester area quite a bit. I know a lot of people and meet new people all the time. When a conversation sparks up, one of the first things that usually is asked is whether or not one of the two parties has a Facebook page or Twitters. Hence, you make a new friend and go looking for them on these sites. Thats all good. But what isn't good is the amount of people who leave these pages unprotected and the fact that the companies that run these services do not force security. Read More...

Google reports that they take 100+ things in to consideration when ranking pages. I have seen others state that it is more like 200+ things. But you don't need to know everything Google takes in to consideration to ascertain what is/is not happening when it comes to obtaining and sustaining good ranking. Read More...
